Peter is forced to abandon his pet fox, Pax, in the woods when his dad enlists in the military. The next day, Peter realizes that he has to find his best friend Pax, and he embarks on a long journey to find his pet. War is coming, Peter is injured, and Pax is struggling to learn how to survive on his own in the wild in this book told from the point of view of both Peter and Pax.
